Are free online tools safe? A checklist

“Free online tool” is not a safety rating. It is a business model. Use this checklist before you upload anything important.

Checklist

1. Is there a real contact address and privacy policy?
2. Does the site explain browser-local vs upload processing?
3. Are you required to create an account for a one-off job?
4. Does the download UX look like malware bait?
5. Would you be comfortable if the file appeared in a support inbox?
