Compress a PDF without installing software

Large PDFs clog email and LMS uploads. You do not always need desktop Acrobat to shrink them. Swiftener PDF Tools can compress documents in a short server job when that is the right trade-off.

When compression helps

Compression helps most when the PDF contains high-resolution images, scanned pages, or unnecessary embedded fonts. It helps less when the file is already mostly text or was exported with low image quality.

A simple workflow

  1. Open PDF Tools.
  2. Choose the compress tool.
  3. Upload a copy of the document you are allowed to process.
  4. Download the result and open it to check readability.
  5. If text looks soft, try a milder setting or compress only image-heavy pages after splitting.
